MEET Tony Devenish AM

London Assembly Member for West Central

Tony was selected by local Conservative Party members at St Colomba’s Church, Pont Street, Chelsea on September 14th, as Kit Malthouse’s successor as GLA candidate for the May 2016 Mayor and London Assembly elections. Kit is now MP for Hampshire NW.

Tony has represented Knightsbridge and Belgravia on Westminster City Council since May 2006. Currently he is Senior Planning Chairman on the Council and Chairman of the Westco, the trading arm of the City Council. Previously he was Cabinet Member for Public Health in the year the service was tupe’d from the NHS to Council control and he chaired the Worksmart efficiency task-force which commenced the ‘More4Less’ philosophy now standard across the better parts of the public sector.

The West Central Constituency (what a mouthful) contains no fewer than five parliamentary constituencies and three London Boroughs : Hammersmith and Fulham, RBKC and the City of Westminster. The GLA works with and holds the London Mayor to account with powers which include transport, the police and strategic planning.

Tony has strong roots within both Westminster and the Royal Borough and many friends too in H&F. He was an active Young Conservative in Chelsea the 1980's  attending events at the old 1a Chelsea Manor Street HQ. More recently he has organised and co-chaired dinners between the Cities of London and Westminster Tories and Kensington, Chelsea and Fulham Tories with speakers as diverse as John Redwood, Brian Walden and Zac Goldsmith.

Tony’s council ward shares both a physical border with RBKC and similar issues to much of West Central (over-development , transport and low level nuisance) he has a track record over the last decade of successfully delivering results working with councillors, council officers and residents.

Outside politics Tony has a twenty five year career in infrastructure - property. Formally one of the youngest General Manager’s overseas in the Middle and Far East for Rolls-Royce (power generation). He is now self-employed allowing him the flexibility to represent local people.
